WHAT CHARMING LIPS YOU HAVE…

24 February 2010 521 views 9 Comments

I would always flip through magazines and see ads with models that have nude lips.  Every time I tried any, it never worked.  I could not find my shade and they always made my lips look ashy.  I always get overwhelmed in beauty stores or cosmetics departments with all the choices, over bearing fragrances in the air, and pushy sales people telling me what THEY think looks good on me!  I always leave unsatisfied.

I walked into a small Planet Beauty, where only two or three employees work at a time.  It wasn’t crowded that day so I knew people would not be in my way.  I asked the cosmetics girl for a nude lipstick that wouldn’t not make my lips look chapped.  She directed me towards the Smashbox section and set aside a few colors that might work.  I tried a sheer shade in Charming ($22) and then I was done!

It doesn’t give an ashy dry look at all.  It has a sheen to it without being sooooo glossy.    It’s wearable without moisturizer but I still wear Burts Beeswax lip balm underneath, out of habit.  It feels super soft either way.  They use sila-silk formula which gives the lips a little shine while Vitamin E and tahitian flower make them kissable.  I wear it day and night but I’m starting to look for something different to cover my lips at night.  Something with a little more pop!  Wish me luck….

Nice find! I always think the nude lip is hard for black women to pull off because of the ashy look. In fact, I only wear colored glosses for this reason. Good to hear there’s something that works!

I agree with Jennie. I think it’s difficult for black women to find a nude lipstick that looks natural on our darker skin. I’m excited about this find. Thank you for sharing!

You guys just don’t know how I have been looking EVERYWHERE for Charming by Smashbox!!!! I can’t find it anywhere in NYC!!! I first saw it on Jessica White in an ad in Elle Mag and instantly feel in love with it. I def agree with everyone. It is difficult to find the right shade for our skin tone but Jessica White proved that wrong. I must find it now!

Yes! Especially since we don’t have make-up artist following us around blending the right shades to get the perfect color. Not every nude works for every skin tone but I’ve seen this shade on white women as well as black women and it still looks good.
