The winner is Gabby!”The dumbest purchase I’ve ever made was a gorgeous, gorgeous skirt 2 sizes too small. Yeah, I totally bought it thinking I’d lose 2 sizes like that and it would be great. Hasn’t happened yet! Boo.”

OH looking back at my closet and choices there are SOO many thing I have purchased and regretted HOWEVER when I first moved to NY I attended the legendary Barneys Warehouse Sale, stupidly opened a credit card and ended up purchasing a Navy Blue limited edition leather jacket. Its actually gorgeous but one size too big and a style that really doesn’t say “ME”. In the last year I have owned it I wore it possibly twice. BOOO at 24% interest….THAT was a mistake.
Back in college I bought the cutest pair of black pointy-toed pumps. I saw them in the store and I just had to have them, even though they were way out of my price range! I loved them so much that I didn’t bother walking around in them inside the store, and I learned within 5 minutes of wearing them outside, on my way to a party, that I’d made a huge mistake – I was in so much pain that I had to take them off and hobble back to my apartment barefoot to change. I never wore them again – oops!
I worked at J.Crew and one of the guys convinced to get this gorgeous cropped coat. Problem is, it was a shade of burnt orange (terrible on my pale skin) and a size too big. I never wore it, it’s still hanging in my closet.
Many (nearly 20) years ago I bought an outfit that my husband (then boyfriend) loved & wanted me to buy because he thought it was really cure. It wasn’t me & I wore it perhaps twice. While I still have problems managing money/purchases, particularly small, low-cost items that quickly add up, I now purchase clothes that I feel “myself” when’wearing. If it doesn’t make me feel more “like me” (I should love it) or fulfill a practical need, I don’t buy it.
Barabara, you’re so right about that! I think as we get older it’s about only buying what we absolutely LOVE and feel great in, not just good in.
Today? An Entemann’s cake KNOWING that I am starting back at the gym tomorrow :p. In life? A building that I renovated. It was quite an ordeal. Never again. Never.
The dumbest purchase I’ve ever made was a gorgeous, gorgeous skirt 2 sizes too small. Yeah, I totally bought it thinking I’d lose 2 sizes like that and it would be great. Hasn’t happened yet! Boo.
I love your site, btw! So glad I found you via Twitter
Thanks Gabby!
Confession? This is a tough one to own up to, but here goes: stupidest purchase ever was my wedding dress. Don’t get me wrong I love my husband to pieces and I love that dress. But I could’ve traveled to exotic lands, paid off all my credit cards, or even put a downpayment on a house. And where is this perfect, only worn once, dress to impress now? Pressed and placed in a sealed box tucked into the back of a closet for my daughters to one day reject. Live and learn, right?
oh no! How much did u spend on the dress?
Sounds like all you fashionistas need to have a fab yard sale of some sort…STAT!
Jennifer, let’s just say it was in the thousands:( I worked so much back then and money was good; it seemed like something you’re just supposed to spend $ on, right? But now, I realize, a dress is just a dress and having money is freedom! Really, JCrew came out w/some beautiful and simple gowns for around $250 like less than a year later and that’s when I knew I blew it. Ahh, Hindsight…
@Ms. P, I’ve considered eBay, lol!
You know what hooked me? the train that neatly and easily pinned up into the most subtle but stylie bustle for the reception… plus it was strapless and made my boobs look Amazing.

I absolutely love the Ohm earrings from Antique Michelle! They’re very simple, could be casual or dressed up, and great details in the hands.
As for the strangest thing I’ve ever carried in my purse it was most definitely a little tiny glass bottle of lint. I attend Tyler School of Art and a friend was collecting lint for one of her art projects. The one day she asked if I was doing my laundry and if I perhaps could collect the leftover lint for her. Thus, I got stuck carrying lint around. It was a little strange…
Oh, wow. Hard to pic my *fave* thing from Anique Michelle! I love, love, love all the accessories, esp the jewelry (I ::heart:: the Socialite bracelet!)! So, that could be my fave item…but, if I could be very general with TWO things I love: the style and the prices! Woo Hoo! Found a new fave place to shop, and I’m forwarding it to my sisters and friends!
Strangest thing I’ve ever carried in my purse? ??? I guess color photos of my lungs. I use my purse to carry just about everything, but honestly, it’s never exciting. However, the pics of my lung were beautiful: pink and happy! So, I showed them to everyone I knew!
)
My favorite piece from Antique Michelle would be the Koala Bear Fun ring because I absolutely love unique pieces & now that animal inspired jewelry is the new trend, it screams “fab”!
The weirdest item I have carried in my purse is an egg. I made sure I placed in securely in one of the compartments. I needed to carry aroung the egg for child development class in high school to reflect parenting skills. I was scared the egg would crack; thank goodiness this wasn’t the case
xoxo
I LOVE The Amy bag. Hmmm…wierdest thing in my purse. I’d have to say a syringe. Wait…before you jump to conclusions, it was to administer Tylenol medicine to my 9 year old daughter. I promise!
I love the Whimsy necklace. Weirdest thing in my purse would be a coffee spoon:)
Wow! You ladies sure have carried some strange things! We love it! Thanks for the entries. It’s going to be really difficult to pick the winner.
